Recently, I’ve been marathon-watching BBC’s show, ‘Sherlock’. After the 2-year long hiatus, creator Stephen Moffatt has finally returned, filming season 3. After the shocking reveal in the first episode of season 3 (Sherlock’s alive, gasp!) we learn that his death was really only faked, and if he can do it, why can’t Moriarty?
I believe that the show’s creators should bring Moriarty back after he committed suicide in the season 2 finale. I believe this for many reasons; his banter with Sherlock was amazing, he’s incredibly loved by fans of the show, and he is an amazing character who brings suspense to the show.
His repartee with Sherlock showed him as a very engaging and well developed character. In the show, he was Sherlock’s only intellectual equal, which meant for interesting and captivating confrontations.
Moriarty may have been a villan, but he was loved by nearly all of the show’s viewers. For those who aren’t frequent watchers of he show, Moriarty was a psychopathic, well connected, mass murderer with amazing observational skills. Sounds terrifying, right? Well, in a way he was, but the suspense felt by viewers while we waitied for him to make his next move was startlingly addictive, me into the show; the adrenalin rush everyone got when we found out about him plans were jaw dropping, and all of the show’s viewers are eager for him to return.
Andrew Scott is a remarkable actor who’s portrayal of such a violent character was marvellous, his emotions were perfect for his character and we (sherlockians) are all concerned that the show will lose its excitement without the shock and suspense provided by Andrew Scott.
In conclusion, I believe that they should bring back Moriarty because he was the main antagonist and in my opinion one of the best characters in the show.
Oh Ma God! IZ Benedict Cumberbacht
